ChronicleLive interview

It’s the pop party of the winter. In just three weeks Pixie Lott will join a host of stars for the Metro Radio Live event in Newcastle.
Alongside Pixie for the extravaganza at the Metro Radio Arena on November 30 will be Matt Cardle, Tinchy Stryder, Emeli Sande, Olly Murs and Joe McElderry.
Pixie’s new single What Do You Take Me For came out this week and will be followed on Monday by her latest album Young Foolish Happy.
She burst on to the scene as a teenager in June 2009 with brassy debut single Mama Do. Going straight to No.1, another chart-topper, Boys And Girls, followed just months later before the million-selling success of her first album Turn It Up confirmed Pixie as a major pop talent.
Since then she has starred in Fred: The Movie and launched her own clothing line. But music remains her first love and, as a statement of intent, this summer’s electro-pop smash-hit All About Tonight was some comeback.
Her third No.1, it was the perfect introduction to her second album, a collection of dance and R&B-inflected pop and soul.
Q: How does Young Foolish Happy differ from Turn It Up?
A: I started writing Turn It Up when I was 14 and now I’m 20. Even though I can relate to the earlier songs, I feel like I’ve really moved on and the music feels more relevant to how I feel right now. I’ve grown up a bit, I’m more mature and I think you can hear that.
Q: One of the most obvious differences is that this record has collaborations. Does the inclusion of Tinchy Stryder, Pusha T and John Legend match your musical tastes?
A: Definitely. Because this album is more soulful, it seemed natural that some of the songs would have a rap in them. It’s music that I’m into, although I grew up listening to soul and Motown which I think also comes out in the record.
Q: The greatest collaboration has to be with Stevie Wonder on Stevie on the Radio. How did that come about?
A: It was a complete accident – I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I went to a restaurant in Los Angeles and bumped into the songwriter Adrian Gurvitz. I was about to leave, but he told me that he’d like me to meet one of his friends and asked me to stick around.
I was expecting this random person and then Stevie Wonder walked in. I mean, Stevie is my all-time favourite. I was so overwhelmed, I could feel my eyes welling up! It was an incredible experience, but it got better. When I ended up writing a song with Adrian, he played it to Stevie. He really liked it and asked if he could put down a harmonica part for the middle eight.
Q: How on earth do you equate the 14-year-old writing songs in her bedroom to working with Stevie Wonder?
A: I try not to get fazed by it, basically! If I’d known at the beginning of this year, when I started writing this album, that I’d meet Stevie Wonder I’d have been over the moon.
Q: Have you got an eye on the American market?
A: It would be nice, wouldn’t it. I haven’t actually released any music out there yet. But I’ll maybe give it a go next year, do some shows out there and see the reaction.
Q: It seems you’re more involved in every aspect of a hit song than is usual for a pop star. You write, you help with the video direction, the choreography. Do you enjoy being so hands-on?
A: It’s always been really important to me to be involved in every step. Creatively, I’m always thinking of ideas for videos so I’ll send out ideas to directors and they’ll pass treatments back to me.
I always give a synopsis of what I want a video to look like and then we’ll sit down and brainstorm how we’ll achieve it.
Q: That’s not usual for a 20 year old pop star with a string of No.1s, is it?
A: No, I don’t think it is. Some do just turn up to the shoot. But at the same time, I’m sure Lady Gaga has all her own ideas. For me, though, I’m the one doing the video so I want to be sure that I’m completely comfortable with it.
Q: Your comeback single went to No. 1. That must have been a huge relief.
A: To be honest I was really excited to start the new songs, even though people were asking me whether I was nervous about following up a successful debut. I’m not the kind of person who feels pressure. I just think you have to enjoy it and see what happens.
But I suppose I was apprehensive. I hadn’t brought out a single for a while so you’re never sure people will be still into you.
Q: And new single What Do You Take Me For definitely has a grittier edge to it. It’s a long way from Cry Me Out…
A: Definitely. I want to keep evolving. The two singles released so far are a reflection of that. We could have released another poppy up-tempo song, but I wanted to surprise people.
That’s not to say the whole album is like that – it’s actually much more soulful – but it’s good to keep people on their toes!

X Factor’s Frankie Cocozza reveals he wants Pixie Lott
Posted by prézli under Articles | Leave a comment
Singer Pixie Lott may already have a boyfriend in model Oliver Cheshire, but that doesn’t stop X-Factor bad boy Frankie Cocozza from wanting to get with her anyway. The X-Factor contestant told Now Magazine that Pixie Lott is his ideal woman, despite the fact that he has the names of seven women with whom he had romantic trysts with over a summer holiday tattooed across his rear end. Cocozza revealed this during his X-Factor audition, which has garnered him a reputation of somewhat of a ladies’ man. Pixie Lott offered no comment or thanks for the flattery on the subject.
Frankie Cocozza may have earned himself a reputation of a ladies’ man, but it seems it will take a lot to impress Lott, who’s already in a relationship with a fairly dreamy male model. The famous singer likely has bigger fish to fry than some random X-Factor contestant with his actual bedpost notches permanently affixed to his body.

Pixie Lott planning to write with british stars
Posted by prézli under Articles | Leave a comment
Pixie Lott wants to write songs with Jessie J and Ed Sheeran.
After recording her second album in the US, the ‘All About Tonight’ singer is keen to collaborate with fellow British stars for her next record.
She said: “Me and Ed are going to try to do some writing together. I joined him on stage at one of his shows recently so we have vowed to start writing some songs next.
“Jessie J too, we were meant to have a writing session years ago but our schedules didn’t meet. We have to try and make it happen at last.”
Pixie did, however, have a great experience making new album ‘Young Foolish Happy’ in California, in particular getting to work with soul legend Stevie Wonder on one song.
She added to the Daily Star newspaper: “We met through a friend and I found it all overwhelming. When we met he held my hand for ages; I guess it’s just to feel your aura. We wrote a song called ‘Stevie on the Radio’ and he played harmonica on it.
“I’m thinking about my next tour. I always sing Stevie’s ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ live so I’d like to do more covers of his.”
‘Young Foolish Happy’ is released on November 14.
